It seems to move ahead quickly.
A few days ago I spend several frustrating hours combing all the craft stores in this town for FEATHERS. No luck there, so I had to turn to the internet. Hubby took over there and ordered from the supplies that would NOT take a month to ship a few ounces of goose feathers.
As I have to wait (hopefully the order will arrive this week sometime) I started on the background.
After marking the position of the branches with a water soluble marker I stitched those lines on the whole of the backing. That's all the quilting it's going to get.
As this piece is going to be heavier than a most, and bulky in the center, I used canvas for the final layer: a poly snow layer, batting and then canvas. The slight wrinkles that were present in the poly snow material suggest some contour in the snow. That all I'm going with.
This morning was used for auditioning materials I'd used before for branches.
In the end, I went back to a 'black' quilting cotton, cut on the bias. It had enough interest with a slight pattern that won't distract from the Ptarmigan and yet looks like a mottled bark.
Tomorrow should finish the branches.
